Pop twins Jedward have admitted they hoped to keep their embarrassing sea rescue secret.

The Eurovision stars were rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter when they were close to drowning after a late-night walk with their cousins.

The former X Factor sensations were only saved after calling their mum who got the emergency services on the case.

But John admitted it has left them utterly embarrassed when the news broke last week.

“We didn’t want anybody finding out, that’s why we called our Mum and then she phoned the emergency services,” he said.

And John told 2FM that he was shocked by the scene that greeted him when the life guard came for them.

He said it was like “something out of a movie”. He added: “We were expecting to be rescued by boat, but were surprised when a giant helicopter came to save the day.”

Jedward willing to defect from Ireland and represent other country in Eurovision

The twins revealed they’d had a number of approaches from countries

Pop twins Jedward have hinted they are set to represent another country at Eurovision for a chance to finally win.

The Dublin brothers represented Ireland twice at Eurovision with Waterline and Lipstick but have yet to bag the trophy.

Now Jedward have revealed they’ve had approaches from other countries to be their act next year in Austria – refusing to deny they are interested.

“We had every single country coming up to us going, ‘Can you please write a song for our country? Can you please represent our country?,’ Edward said.

“So who knows? There’s a lot of demand for Jedward. There’s a lot of Jedward love all over the world.”

Previously, the lads admitted they were considering writing a song for next year’s competition – with winner Conchita Wurst’s writer willing to help.

And John hinted that Spain could be where their heart lies, adding in an online interview: “I’d like to record a song in Spanish.”

Eurovision stars Jedward are planning their own version of Live Aid – to raise money for the coast guard who rescued them.

The former X Factor singers had to be saved by helicopter in a daring late-night mission after being stranded at sea with their cousin.

Now John, 22, revealed they are set to meet up with Bob Geldof for help on arranging the charity gig.

“Firstly it is amazing that members of the coastguard do it all voluntarily so we want to help,” he said.

“We’ll meet Bob in two weeks’ time in England at Guilfest and of course he’s the man to ask how to do it because he did such an incredible job raising money for charity with Live Aid.”

And John told the Sun that he and Edward thought they were about to die earlier this week.

“We really thought we had died. We were in complete pitch dark,” he said.

“We went for a two-hour walk down the beach and found ourselves stuck. It took two days for us to stop shaking.”
