It’s a no from us: Jedward reveal they turned down job hosting Xtra Factor

Pop twins Jedward have revealed they turned down a chance to present the Xtra Factor.
The Dubliners revealed they were asked by ITV bosses to host the show alongside DJ Sarah-Jane Crawford.
But Jedward decided to pass on the big-money presenting opportunity, adding: “They had a girl so they needed two guys, we passed”.
However Edward, 22, told the Irish Sun that the money doesn’t matter to them – as they are rich enough to buy their own house soon.

“Are Jedward well off? We don’t owe money so I suppose we are, in fact we’re hoping to buy a house soon,” he said.
“We also made a lot of money for other people. That leaves us free to go around the world to play and work on our sound.”
And John insisted that despite having no record label they aren’t giving up on their career – and will still be going in five years.

“Of course some people have written us off but we still plan on doing this in five years’ time,” he said.
“We’d like people to give us a break. We’ve crossed all sorts of boundaries and appealed to people who didn’t give us a chance before.

Jedward want to enter Eurovision for a THIRD time after series of flops for Ireland

The X Factor twins plan to write our song for next year – with the help of Conchitta

VIPIrelandPicture-Ref103764-620x434

Jedward have revealed they want to enter Eurovision again – by writing Ireland’s entry next year.

The X Factor twins insisted they won’t perform at the 2015 contest in Austria as they don’t feel people would “appreciate” it.

But the Dubliners – who came eighth with Lipstick when they entered three years ago – feel they know what Ireland needs to win.

John said: “I’d like to write a song, we wrote other songs that are going to be on our album. But I’d like to write a really good Eurovision song.

“I think we have to be prepared, rather than do it last minute. Really prepare for it… I think we need to think outside of Ireland at what will work.”

Edward added that Ireland, who failed to make it past the semi-finals with Kasey, “needs a song that stands out” and the person behind Conchita Wurst’s win wants to work with them.

He said: “The guy who wrote Conchitta’s song, he wants to write a song with us for Eurovision.”

Meanwhile, Jedward told the Ray D’Arcy Show that they will always stay the same – and don’t plan to rebel.

John said: “I feel like me and Edward always try and be who we are before we went on the whole thing. We don’t say we have to start getting loads of tattoos, we have to be hanging out.

“We’re not saying, ‘Look at me, I’m smoking, I’m doing this, I’m doing that’. We just want to always be us and stay who we are.”

Edward added: “Me and John don’t have this massive pressure on our shoulders every day, where we have to impress 1,000 people working for us… we’ve never felt like we’ve been in a position where we have to rebel.”

John said: “If I was to ever rebel, I’d just have a load of chocolates and sweets.”

Jedward support Kasey Smith in Copenhagen

Ireland’s Eurovision entry Kasey Smith yesterday got support from previous competitors Jedward who are in Copenhagen for the competition.

Can-Linn featuring Kasey will perform Heartbeat in the second semi-final of the competition which takes place tomorrow night at 8pm. They are hoping to secure a place in Saturday night’s grand finale.

The two time Eurovision finalists offered advice to the singer telling her “you have to own that stage and go out there and work it like Beyonce!”

Last night ten countries booked their place in the final with Montenegro, Hungary, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, San Marino, Ukraine, Sweden, the Netherlands and Iceland all  progressing in the competition.

Albania, Belgium, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova and Portugal missed out on a final place.

You can watch the second semi-final tomorrow night on RTÉ Two at 8pm where Marty Whelan will be guiding us through the competition.

Check out Kasey Smith and Can-Linn’s Eurovision outfits below.
Leading Irish bridal designer Kathy De Stafford made Kasey’s gold gown which features a fitted embroidered bodice and sheer tulle skirt.

There are thousands of beads on the dress, and every single one was hand sewn individually, while the tulle skirt was spray painted gold to match the bodice.

Kasey’s dramatic neckpiece was made by Irish designer Oliver Doherty Duncan, who previously made neckpieces for HBO’s Game of Thrones. Oliver is currently working for Warner Bros on the new Peter Pan film and is based in London.

The girls’ jewellery was made by Blaithin Ennis, who won Jewellery Designer of the Year at the Irish Fashion Innovation Awards 2014, while the lads’ kilts were designed by Kevin & Howlin who are based in Dublin.

They’re back! Jedward return to Eurovision as special guests tonight

Jedward, the former X Factor stars that represented Ireland at the 2011 and 2012 Eurovision Song Contest are back at the competition and will make a special appearance in the first Eurovision semi final in Copenhagen this evening.

As part of tonight’s show, the Danish broadcaster is introducing the Eurovision Book of Records. It’s a fun part of the show and Jedward make two appearances in the record books.

Jedward’s Eurovision appearances have become legendary in Ireland and with Eurovision fans across the world.

Their song Lipstick was initially written off as a no-hoper of an entry.

Jedward not only surprised music critics by breaking through their semi final, they took Ireland to a rare top half finish at the Eurovision song Contest, finishing 8th and beating the United Kingdom’s much fancied entry by reunited boyband, Blue, who finished 11th.

The euphoria across Ireland at regaining a place on the top half of the Eurovision scoreboard led to calls for Jedward to represent the Emerald Isle again the following year. Jedward, working with former X Factor judge, Louis Walsh, promptly agreed to return and won the Irish Eurosong final again in 2012.

This time, however, they could only reach 19th place out of 26 finalists with Waterline. There were no calls for them to try three years in a row.

There is a match between Jedward and the Eurovision Song Contest that seems to have tied them into Eurovision folklore.

Their over-the-top staging and performances captured much of the essence of the fun side of the Eurovision Song Contest. The tall hair, crazy shoulder pads, backflips, somersaults and Europop style entries have put Ireland back into memory for a new generation of Eurovision fans that forget Ireland’s incredible record at the competition in the 1990s.

Ireland holds the record for the most Eurovision Song Contest wins. They’ve taken the title seven times, including three in a row from 1992 until 1994. The only time a country has won in three successive years. They won again in 1996 before disappearing from the top of the scoreboard for the best part of two decades.

Their first win came back in 1970 when a young Dana upstaged the hot favourite Mary Hopkins from the United Kingdom. At the time, Mary was a star across Europe and expected to win at a canter.

The two other wins came in 1980 and 1987 and were both sung by Johnny Logan, now known as Mr Eurovision because he’s the only entrant to win the competition twice.

What of Ireland’s chances in 2014? They’re represented this year by Can-Linn featuring Kasey Smith.

Kasey has been popular with fans at the competition and hosted the Irish delegation party at The Shamrock in Copenhagen last night. It was well attended by the delegations from Norway, Finland, Malta and FYR Macedonia.

The problem the Irish have this year is that they have selected a soft rock-pop entry with Gaelic undertones. It’s a bit reminiscent of former Irish super-group The Corrs. Like The Corrs, however, this song might belong to the last decade and could struggle to make an impact against some of the bigger numbers in this year’s show.

Ireland qualified for the final again last year, only to come last in Sweden. It could be a similar story this year but qualifying for the final in itself will be seen as a victory on the other side of the Irish Sea.

The United Kingdom will be able to vote in the second semi final on Thursday night from 8pm on BBC3.

Ireland will be hoping that some neighbourly voting helps them bag qualification to the final on Saturday night.
